Monument to the Hero of the Soviet Union Pyotr Kupriyanov
The youngest son of the patriot mother Anastasia Fominichna Kupriyanova, Peter, during the Great Patriotic War, was a member of the Zhodinsky underground, a partisan of the Rodina detachment of the partisan brigade “Rout”. He fought on the 3rd Belorussian, 1st Baltic fronts. On November 2, 1944, in a battle near the village of Nikrace of the Latvian SSR, he repeated the feat of Alexander Matrosov, closing the embrasure of an enemy bunker with his chest. Pyotr Ivanovich Kupriyanov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously). The monument was erected to mark the 20th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War and is a stele with a bas-relief in the upper part. The inscription “Heroi Zhyvut is eternal” is placed in the center of the memorial.
