Vasily Chebotarev, an operative of the Smersh military counterintelligence department, died in June 1944 at the site of the memorial, having entered into a hand-to-hand fight with the enemy. Among the century-old pines, a section of the front line was recreated and a monument to the hero was erected. The memorial complex has become a popular venue for events on Victory Day, veterans, representatives of labor collectives and young people come to it to lay flowers and honor the memory of the brave defender of the Motherland.
