Chaim Soutine Space Museum in Smilovichi
In February 2008, an exhibition dedicated to one of the most famous artists of the Paris school, a native of Smilovichi Chaim Soutine, was opened in the Center for Creativity of Children and Youth. Soutine’s unique canvases adorn the best museums in America and Europe, they are purchased by collectors for tens of millions of dollars. The museum’s expositions are located in three halls – the first tells about Soutine’s childhood and youth, the second is stylized as a Parisian cafe, where the artist liked to spend time. The third hall is dedicated to the work of another painter born in Smilovichi, Faibish-Shraga Zarfin. As a child, he was friends with Chaim, and only thanks to him, memories of the early period of Soutine’s life in Smilovichi have been preserved.
