The monument, erected in 2002 in honor of the 900th anniversary of Borisov, has become the «visit-card» of the city. The city owes its appearance to Prince Boris Vseslavich of Polotsk, the son of the legendary Vseslav the Sorcerer. According to the chronicles, in 1102 Вoris founded the city at the confluence of the rivers Skha and Berezina and named it after himself. Prince Boris gave a lot of effort to the spread of Christianity in the Belarusian lands, the monuments of epigraphy that have survived to this day, “Borisov stones”, are named after him.
